Our Story
Matt and I were feeling stagnant in our daily routine at home in St. Louis, Missouri and knew we were meant for a more adventurous life. We always loved taking trips during my school breaks and during the summer, as I was a P.E. and Health teacher for 9 years. However, we felt like something was missing, that there was a more fulfilling life out there for us. Matt had always wanted to move out west, but I was attached to our first home, a 1921 historic house in the city, especially since we just renovated it four years earlier. It was my baby. I love that house.
The change was sparked in January 2017 after watching a documentary about minimalism. We realized we had a lot of stuff that was holding us back. We started thinking about what could be possible for us if we downsized, and soon after, the idea of RVing across America was born.
It took about a year and a half of planning, and finally in May of 2018 I quit my teaching job. Matt’s request to work remote was denied, so he put in his two weeks. A week in, he received an unexpected call that they decided to approve him! You can imagine my excitement when he called to tell me, especially since we were trying to swallow that fact that we would start this journey jobless and be forced to figure it out along the way.
On July 16, 2018 we took the leap! We are learning so much, and I am so happy to report that WE LOVE IT!!! Like Lewis and Clark, we love when we have reached “new land” because there is so much to explore!
We enjoy this lifestyle so much that we want to share our experiences and what we learn along the way. We hope you will find it entertaining and useful!
